A section about Protests of the past is included in the end of the book. There is a recipe for mint chocolate chip cookies in the back. Olive is an upstander for her classmates and at the same time, others are an upstander for her. Olive is determined to win, even if it means she has to run against her friends. When her school has an election for student council, she figures this is the perfect opportunity she needs to be able to make some changes that will help her classmates. She researches protests in history including LGBT youth, end the war, occupy, water=life, votes for women, and queer youth. As Olive tries to figure out how to help her friends, she thinks about having a peaceful protest. Would you stand up to your friends if you felt someone was being slighted? A few of Olive’s classmates are not able to go on a field trip to see a play in the city because they do not have enough money to cover the fee.
